IN MEMORY OF LARRY VILLINEAVA
I just wanted to write something about a friend who died recently. I feel bad and sad. i haven't seen my friend since 1993. I thought he was alone, I was wrong! His name was Larry Villinanueva? Not sure how to spell his last name? never did.  He left a 5 yr. old son, stepson and a wife. I am sorry I have not kept in touch or else I would have know these things about his family. We had a falling out in high school. We got in a fight. I will admit the fight went my way. It was great for me and bad for him. I was scared at first I thought Larry might kill me? I was scared, cause that is the way he was. I was reassured by my other best friend that he would do nothing and it would turn out okay. it did for the most part. but I wanted to say that I did not fight my friend to hurt him!!! I did this for respect. I wanted Larry's respect!!!!!!!!!!! Nothing less and nothing more. You see I respected Larry he was my best friend!! Well there was three of us that hung out together. I was the third wheel, you could say I was learning the ropes. Larry was the tough one, he was strict, cold if you will... down right mean and stubborn. Larry taught me to stick up for my self! Not be a pussy! we grew up on the streets. Not in a big city but on the streets none the less. Larry always put me to the test. He was mean, he was tight, and he would kick my ass if I didn't do what he or what my other bestfriend said. That is the way it was. I did almost any and everything he asked of me. We were all crazy and had lots of fun being crazy. THE BEST TIME IN MY LIFE!!! Well after the fight Larry dropped out of school. He didn't do much. He was distant and resentful. He was so goddamn stubborn!! He had a lot of pride, to much. he let the fight eat him up. I moved away and came back. Larry was gone nobody seemed to know where? After a couple of years I came back. Larry was not in the best of shape. Physically or mentally! I was confused? (You see Larry was cool!! He combed his hair twenty times a day and always wore the newest fashions of the time. Levis and Nike's. He loved to lift weights and was very strong. Larry had some Popeye guns!! Kicked ass  at arm wrestling!!) Larry told me he was a Jehovah witness down in Arizona or something. But he looked like hell, out of shape almost 300 lbs. riding a bike around town. I didn't know what to say we had beers. During our conversation Larry asked me this, "How did you learn how to fight like that?" I was speechless at the time I told him I had boxed a little, until i broke my nose. Larry seemed at loss or ashamed I changed the subject. I left after awhile glad that he was alive and ok for the most part, but I always wanted to say that I learned to be a bad ass from HIM. He taught me to stick up for myself no matter what, even if doing so meant getting my ass kicked!! He told me to never look scared even if I was and never blink or it would be over before it started. I took what he taught me and not only used it that one time but all my life. I felt bad for Larry up there in that shit hole by himself. I would see Larry once in a while riding his bike. one day he came over with a new used car. He was starting to do better. We called it "Looking alive". To tell you the truth I wasn't doing much better. I was living with my mom at the time. We cruzed around drank beers like we always did when we had beer. my other best friend was doing great, he always did. I saw Larry a couple of times more before i moved on to Colorado. I miss him. I know it is too late for all that now, but he was a big part of my life!!!! I took the best of what Larry taught me and used it in my life. I may not be rich or have a big house. but I have respect and nobody fucks with me!!! I just want to say. THANKS LARRY FOR BEING MY FRIEND AND TOLERATING MY NAIVE ASS. I WAS A PUNK WHEN I MET YOU AND A MAN THE LAST TIME I SAW YOU. YOU MADE A DIFFERENCE TO ME AND MY LIFE.  YOUR MEMORIES WILL LIVE ON IN ME AND WITH MY CHILDREN. I remember, when I used to mess up. Larry would look at me like I was the dumbest asshole that ever lived and shake his head and snap his finger. He would say EeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeCRESPIN.....LOOK ALIVE MAN.

Your friend,

James G Crespin

Lyrics to "No Mind"
His hands are shaking,
nerves on edge,
a battle is brewing, on to the cage.
The crowd is restless,
he takes his stance,
this could be his only chance.

Mind now racing, to no mind,
break the will of all behind.

He's gonna, THROW down hard,
throw down hard, throw down hard...be like water.
Throw down hard, throw down hard, throw down hard...
Be like water.

Blood goes flying,
punch connects,
there's no defenses for the best.
no use fighting he's in control,
now it's going toe to toe.

The only way is forward,
can't stop now.
The only way is forward,
no turning back....the only way...

Mind now racing, to no mind,
break the will of all behind.
